Copyright and Database Right Notice
All member states of the European Union have implemented the EC Database Directive (96/9/EC) which grants creators and makers of databases exclusive rights. These rights include in particular:
- the copyright protection of the selection and arrangement of the contents (data) included in a database;
- the specific protection of the maker of a database ("database right") which will give the maker the right to control copying, distribution and public display of all, or a substantial part of the contents of a database.
In the United States and Canada the intellectual property rights in databases are also protected by the national copyrights laws.
